McDowell Joins President Trump at White House for Signing of HALT Fentanyl Act

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Addison McDowell (NC-06) joined President Donald J. Trump at the White House for the signing of the HALT Fentanyl Act, a vital piece of legislation that permanently schedules fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs and equips law enforcement with the critical tools needed to bring down drug traffickers.
McDowell made the following statement following the signing of the HALT Fentanyl Act:
“It was an honor to join President Trump at the White House as he signed the HALT Fentanyl Act into law. This isn’t just a policy issue for me, it’s deeply personal,” said Congressman McDowell. “Today marks a major step forward in the fight to stop fentanyl from reaching our communities and tearing families apart. I’m extremely grateful for the President’s leadership, both on this issue and in securing our southern border.”
In Congress, Congressman McDowell has made the fentanyl crisis a top priority, leading efforts both in North Carolina and in the nation’s capital to combat the epidemic. In May, he hosted a local roundtable with every sheriff and district attorney from North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District to hear directly from the leaders fighting fentanyl on the front lines.
Congressman McDowell has cosponsored and led on the following fentanyl-related legislation:
- H.Res.359 – Supporting National Fentanyl Awareness Day in 2025
- H.R.2964 – Fight Fentanyl Act
- H.R.2383 – Protecting Kids from Fentanyl Act of 2025
- H.R.1569 – CATCH Fentanyl Act
- H.R.128 – Fentanyl is a WMD Act
- H.R. 2351 – To direct the Commandant of the Coast Guard to update the policy of the Coast Guard regarding the use of medication to treat drug overdose, and for other purposes.
The HALT Fentanyl Act is a major victory for law enforcement, victims’ families, and all Americans who are demanding action to stop the fentanyl crisis.
