Rep. Addison McDowell Votes to Reopen the Government and Restore Vital Services

Wednesday, November 12, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Addison McDowell (NC-06) voted “YEA” on the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 - Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026 to end the over 40-day government shutdown and restore critical government services for Americans. This funding measure ensures that air traffic controllers will receive their pay and recipients of SNAP will receive assistance.

“Americans have felt the pain caused by Democrats in DC for long enough. Today, I voted to re-open the government by supporting for a second time a funding bill that will ensure our skies get back to normal operations, families do not go hungry, and thousands of government employees are paid and back to work,” Congressman McDowell said. “The House first passed a clean government funding bill at the end of September, and Senate Democrats voted to keep the government shut 14 times spanning over 40 days, deciding to use the hardships of the American people as leverage in their political theatre rather than govern responsibly for the betterment of the country.”

“I look forward to getting back to governing and continuing to focus on making life more affordable for folks across the Sixth District,” Congressman McDowell continued.

The final agreement, the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371, keeps the government funded at current levels through January 30, 2026, and includes three full-year appropriations bills for agriculture, the legislative branch, and military construction and veterans programs.

Background:

Congressman McDowell voted in support of  H.R. 5371 on September 19th, which would have fully funded the government until November 22, 2025. Senate Democrats blocked the passage of H.R. 5371 14 times, creating chaos in our skies and withholding nutritional assistance from families across North Carolina’s 6th congressional district.
