Rep. McDowell: Trump Administration Delivers Major Win in Fight Against Fentanyl
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Addison McDowell praised the Trump Administration and FBI Director Kash Patel for securing a landmark agreement with China to crack down on the chemicals used to produce fentanyl. The deal will save millions of lives by designating 13 precursors and placing new controls on seven additional compounds tied to fentanyl production.
“This is a major win for Americans across the country and for families here in the Sixth District,” Congressman McDowell said. “From day one, President Trump made stopping the flow of fentanyl a top priority. I commend the White House for striking this agreement with China to curb the deadly chemicals responsible for taking the lives of our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers. I look forward to continuing my work in Congress to help end this crisis, so no family has to lose a loved one to this poison. ”
The announcement follows Director Patel’s recent trip to China, where he met with senior officials to press for action. Patel credited President Donald J. Trump’s meeting with President Xi Jinping for creating the breakthrough that led to the agreement.
Since President Trump took office, fentanyl seizures at the southern border have dropped 53%. This year alone, the FBI has seized enough fentanyl to kill an estimated 127 million Americans.
“When saving American lives is the priority, real progress happens,” McDowell said. “President Trump isn’t afraid to have the tough conversations or make the tough decisions needed to protect the American people.”
